A new campaign has launched encouraging shoppers in the United States to support sustainable products and brands.
Fairtrade America, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), and the Non-GMO Project are promoting the ‘Little Label, Big Impact’ drive throughout January to draw attention to certification labels.

Research by MSC has found that nearly 70% of American seafood consumers want third-party verification and around half (49%) say the labels raise their trust and confidence in the brand.
“A lot of dedicated time and effort went into those labels — from the harvesters to the auditors, to the brands themselves — so that shoppers have a clear option to shop their values among products with trusted third-party verification,” said Nicole Condon, US Programme Director at MSC.
In January and beyond, shoppers are being encouraged to look for the Fairtrade Mark, MSC blue fish, and Non-GMO butterfly around the aisles of their local food store.
The blue and green Fairtrade America label can be found on items like coffee, tea, chocolate, bananas and produce such as cotton.
The MSC blue fish label can be found on wild-caught seafood in the canned or pouched fish aisle, on frozen seafood, at the seafood counter, and even pet food and supplements.
The orange butterfly label by the Non-GMO Project can be found on fresh and packaged foods, dairy, meat and eggs, fruit and vegetables, snack foods, vitamins and supplements, vegetable oils and skincare products.
