Aker QRILL Company and Tersan Shipyard are teaming up on the construction of a new state-of-the-art krill fishing vessel.
The new vessel, the fourth for Aker QRILL, will help ensure a continued, sustainable supply of feed and raw materials from Antarctic krill, the world’s largest single-species biomass.

“Adding a fourth vessel to our fleet is crucial for our success as we enter the next phase of growth and development,” said Webjørn Barstad, chief executive of Aker QRILL Company.
“This vessel will bolster our ambition to maintain our leadership position in the krill industry and ensure access to renewable and sustainable marine raw materials—vital to meet the growing global demand for sustainable marine feed ingredients with excellent nutritional qualities.”
The deal involves the purchase and extensive rebuild of a vessel project originally cancelled 18 months ago and represents a significant milestone for both companies.
“This partnership provides valuable opportunities for both parties, and we are grateful for the chance to complete and deliver this vessel,” said Ahmet Paksu, vice president of Tersan Shipyard.
The vessel will undergo substantial customisation to meet Aker QRILL’s needs, with several Norwegian maritime suppliers benefitting from the project. Additionally, Aker QRILL is incorporating advances in alternative fuel technologies into the vessel, aligning with its commitment to sustainability.
The new vessel is set to operate under a Norwegian fisheries license in the CCAMLR krill fishery and is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of 2026.
