A ‘Salmon Wagon’ is raising vital funds for local charities on its 4,230 mile road trip around Scotland.

Mowi’s food truck set out touring events in May 2022 serving up salmon fillet burgers and noodle salads, with 100% of proceeds from the food sales benefitting their chosen charities to the tune of £7,318.

“We built the Salmon Wagon in 2019 to engage with our local communities and raise funds for the causes closest to their hearts,” said Jayne MacKay, community engagement officer at Mowi Scotland.

“It is humbling to see the work being done at local level around the country and we are delighted to be able to help and support those in need through donations to - this year - food banks, mental health, children’s charities and other great causes.”

All in all nine charities across events in Arisaig, Duror, Kingussie, Invergarry, Isle of Lewis, Lochgilphead, North Uist, Rosyth and Strontian were supported, amongst which was the 2022 Camanachd Cup Final in Kingussie.

Mowi is a long-term supporter of shinty in Scotland and proceeds from the truck on the day were donated to Mikeysline, an Inverness-based charity providing support for people who are struggling with their mental health.

Emily Stokes, chief executive of Mikeysline, said the charity was very grateful to receive the Salmon Wagon’s support. “Not only did we benefit greatly from the funds raised, which will help us in developing our mental health support and suicide prevention services further in rural areas of the Highlands, but from the profile and awareness raising,” she said.
