Atlantic salmon producer Mowi ASA harvested 102,500 tonnes of gutted weight equivalent (GWE) fish in the first-quarter of this year, some 5,500 tonnes more than in the corresponding period of 2022, and 4,500 tonnes more than the 98,000-tonne guidance provided with its fourth-quarter 2022 results.

According to the Bergen, Norway-headquartered group’s latest trading update, its Norwegian farm sites harvested 65,500 tonnes in the quarter, compared with 59,500 tonnes a year previously. Its Scottish operations, meanwhile, produced 11,000 tonnes in Q1, up 500 tonnes on the corresponding period of last year.

Mowi’s farms in Canada and Chile harvested 7,500 tonnes and 10,500 tonnes respectively, compared with 9,000 tonnes and 16,000 tonnes previously, while its Irish and Faroese operations produced 1,000 tonnes and 2,000 tonnes, respectively. Additionally, its new Farming Iceland (Arctic Fish) segment harvested 5,000 tonnes.

The update estimated the quarter’s operational earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) to be around €322 million, which would be €115 million more than in Q1 2022. It also calculated the total operational EBIT per kg through the value chain at approximately €3.75 for Norway, €2.45 for Scotland, €2.15 for Canada, €1.50 for Chile, €1.70 for Ireland, €3.30 for the Faroes and €2.10 for Iceland.

Operational EBIT in Mowi’s Consumer Products segment for the quarter was €37 million, up €16 million, while the Feed segment’s operational EBIT was €6 million, compared with €1 million in Q1 2022.
