Azerbaijan Fish Farm has achieved Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, becoming the first sturgeon breeding farm to do so.
Established in 1954 in the Neftchala district, the company produces premium caviar for markets including the US, UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong.

“We applaud Azerbaijan Fish Farm for becoming the first caviar farm to achieve BAP certification,” said Mike Berthet, Global Seafood Alliance’s market development representative in the UK.
“This underscores their commitment to responsible practices and their dedication to environmental responsibility, social accountability, food safety and animal welfare.”
AFF’s approach to sustainable aquaculture combines traditional and modern breeding techniques, such as the use of a recirculating aquaculture system, cage culture model and advanced seaside tanks.
The company has access to both freshwater from the Kura River and saltwater from the Caspian Sea, a unique combination which it says mimics the natural habitat of sturgeon.
AFF says it is also committed to eco-friendly practices and conservation efforts, releasing ten fish for every jar of caviar sold, helping safeguard the highly endangered population endemic to the Caspian Sea.
