ScaleAQ has appointed Cristian Sauterel as head of its business in Chile, with the role starting in February.

The appointment follows a year of increased focus on understanding Chilean aquaculture conditions, culture and operating environment.

Ben Øksnes, interim chief executive at ScaleAQ Chile welcomed Sauterel to his new role. “He is a highly respected voice in Chilean aquaculture and brings an impressive background to the role,” he said. “We have conducted an extensive search across Chile to find the right person to unlock our potential. Cristian has a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities of salmon farming.”

Sauterel joins from Australis Seafoods, where he spent 12 years as head of production. His background also includes experience at Mowi, a degree in veterinary medicine, and advanced business education, including an MBA and a Master’s degree in management.

ScaleAQ chief executive Audun Sivertsen also welcomed the appointment. “The Chilean farmers should choose among the best tools,” he said. “Christian will help us identify both today’s and future challenges and solutions. Together we will find the best approach, grounded in biology.”
