BioMar has acquired the remaining 30% shareholding in BioMar Ecuador, taking full ownership of the company while announcing a significant expansion of production capacity to meet growing demand from the country’s shrimp farming sector.
BioMar Ecuador expects to increase annual production capacity from 300,000 tonnes to 410,000 tonnes during 2026.

The acquisition follows a highly successful partnership with the Lanec family, during which BioMar Ecuador quadrupled feed volumes between 2019 and 2024. Under the agreement, the Lanec family will transfer full ownership to BioMar, while continuing as strategic commercial partners.
“It has been an incredible journey together with Lanec,” said Carlos Diaz, chief executive of BioMar Group.
“We were new to the Ecuadorian world of shrimp when entering the joint venture, and Lanec has been instrumental contributing to designing future product solutions while adapting our research to accelerate growth in Ecuador.”
To support continued growth, BioMar is expanding its Ecuadorian production facility through debottlenecking measures and the installation of a new pelletised feed line. The expansion project will lift capacity to 410,000 tonnes and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
“We see a great potential for shrimp farming in Ecuador, and we are well-positioned to benefit from the growth in the market,” said Diaz.
“During the last years, we have moved from having a strong foothold among the small and medium size farmers to establishing long-term strategic collaborations with some of the largest farmers in the country, collaborating on building innovative feed solutions promoting a more efficient and sustainable aquaculture in Ecuador.”

In parallel, BioMar is preparing a further expansion of between 200,000 and 300,000 tonnes, combining pelletised and extruded feed lines. This next phase is expected to be initiated in the first half of 2026 to meet anticipated demand.
