Biosort has secured more than NOK 100 million to commercialise its individual-based lice control system for salmon farming.

The Oslo-based aquaculture technology company has attracted investment from Grieg Kapital, Hatch Blue, IVC, Farvatn and Futurum Ventures, alongside existing owners, to accelerate market entry.
“This funding takes us from development into commercial sales. Our focus is simple: Continuous lice removal to suppress lice development and greatly reduce needs for well-boat treatments. The goal is improved welfare, lower mortality, better biological control and ultimately making fish thrive,” said Geir Stang Hauge, CEO of Biosort.
Commercial rollout
The funding will support final development and commercial rollout of its next-generation lice control platform, designed to enable continuous, early-stage lice removal in salmon farming operations.
Biosort’s system integrates advanced machine vision, artificial intelligence and FishID systems to identify and track individual salmon.
By combining precise fish identification with early lice control interventions, the system aims to prevent uncontrolled lice population growth and reduce the need for full-pen treatments, a persistent operational and biological challenge in aquaculture.
Founded in 2010, Biosort focuses on data-driven solutions to enhance fish health - it’s best known for its development licence project, iFarm.
Hatch Blue’s Carsten Krome added that increasing industry focus on health and technology adoption positions Biosort to contribute to the next phase of aquaculture development.
