Kongsberg Discovery has officially launched its FS80 Trawl Sonar, a compact and modular system poised to revolutionise pelagic trawling by combining net monitoring, intake profiling and bottom detection in a single unit.

Described by the company as a ‘new era’ in efficient and sustainable fishing, Kongsberg is marketing the FS80 as the first sonar of its kind to offer this level of integrated functionality.

Kongsberg has launched the Simrad FS80 Sonar, revolutionising sustainable trawling with integrated, modular technology

“Our market experience and understanding gives us unique insight into customer pain points, while our technological expertise allows us to develop the solutions to solve them,” said Mads Dahl, vice president of sales at Kongsberg Discovery. “The FS80 Trawl Sonar provides the proof.”

Dahl added, “This is the first time a truly integrated system has hit the market, delivering operational flexibility and reliable results that all customers can take advantage of – whatever the pelagic fish types and whatever the size of the trawl.”

Building on the legacy of the FS70, the FS80 supports diverse telemetry cables and offers enhanced compatibility through the soon-to-be-launched FH80 HUB.

This platform allows customers to customise their systems with components such as cameras, acoustic modems and future AI-driven technologies.

“We see this as the beginning of a new era of sustainable success,” concluded Dahl.
