The FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department has recently published seven technical documents on aquaculture.

One is the Global Synthesis of Aquaculture Development Status and Trends, and six are Regional Reviews of Aquaculture Development, Status and Trends.

The FAO and NACA co-organised the Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 with the theme Farming the Waters for People and Food. The conference was hosted by the Royal Government of Thailand’s Department of Fisheries. After a process of improvement and expansion, the Regional Reviews of Aquaculture Development, Status and Trends for 2010 were presented at the conference in Phuket in September last year. The conference provided an additional opportunity to openly discuss and improve the information and main content of these documents.

The FAO says that the Regional Reviews and the Global Synthesis can be of pertinent use to national governments, regional organisations, policy makers, farmers, investors, civil society organisations, research and training institutions and the general public. A relevant element of the Regional Reviews is that each review, apart from North America, has been produced in both English and the official UN language of the region.

The reviews can be downloaded from the FAO website.
