Hampidjan is reshaping its fast-expanding aquaculture portfolio by folding activities from multiple subsidiaries into a single international company, ELDI, which will officially begin operations on 1 January 2026.

The move follows a decade of acquisitions – Vonin in 2016, Mørenot in 2023 and Fiizk Protection in 2024 – that pushed aquaculture from a side business into one of the group’s most significant revenue streams.

Hampidjan is consolidating its aquaculture operations into a new company - ELDI - to create coordinated global growth

Last year, aquaculture sales accounted for roughly 27% of the group’s revenue; this year’s total is expected to reach around €113 million.

“Our vision is to become the global provider of end-to-end aquaculture innovation,” said Thomas Berg Myrvold, formerly head of Mørenot Aquaculture and now chief executive of ELDI.

“This means combining world-class technology, smart products, strong service capabilities and a global footprint with the local presence our customers rely on.”

ELDI will be headquartered in Norway, the world’s largest salmon-farming nation, and will oversee ten subsidiaries across Canada, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Chile, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Hampidjan will own the company directly and through Vonin and Mørenot. Several mixed-operation facilities are being split, with fish-farming services carved out under new names such as ELDI Iceland, ELDI Faroes and ELDI Norway.

The new structure also reflects a shift in production. Most aquaculture nets will be manufactured at Kohinoor in India, with Lithuania kept for short-turnaround orders. European production has been tightened, including closures in Denmark and Poland and plans to end knotless-net manufacturing in Norway and Lithuania early next year.

“The opportunities in aquaculture are great because the need for aquaculture products has never been greater,” said Hampidjan chief executive Hjörtur Erlendsson, who will chair ELDI’s board.

“With the establishment of ELDI, we are combining the capabilities needed to address these challenges in a targeted manner and with clear strategic planning.”
