VULKAN Couplings will be introducing the VULKARDAN G coupling at Nor-Fishing 2012.

The new VULKARDAN G coupling has been especially designed for modern auxiliary and main generator applications with SAE flywheels which are used in large fishing vessels. The torque range for this coupling is between 5 and 25kNm, which suits engines up to 4300kW. The design also compliments the requirements of free standing propulsion systems and allows efficient and time-saving assembly and disassembly of the elastomer.
The company says that the slim element design lends to very good values regarding the coupling’s power loss capabilities. By the use of an elastomer with adequate torsional stiffness (cTdyn), the system is also optimally tuned to minimise torsional vibrations. The connection of the elastomer with a membrane made of high-tensile spring material enables axial, angular and radial displacements between the driving and driven parts of the application. This makes the VULKARDAN G coupling applicable for semi-elastic mounted engines.
The membranes of the VULKARDAN G can also compensate for axial vibrations generated by the engine. The service life of all components in the application, such as generator bearings etc; benefit from this positive effect. All-in-all the VULKARDAN G coupling allows optimal, vibration minimisation of the drive system. The result of VULKAN Coupling’s own elastomer research center, own vulcanization processes and unique testing capabilities, is a tailored solution for the high-speed generators.
At the exhibition, the company will also launch elastic mounts suitable to elastically suspend every kind of machinery such as: main engine, auxiliary generator sets, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, etc.
