?Fiskebäck fishing company Gifico and the Karstensen yard in Skagen have a relationship that goes back to the 1970s, and they are now embarking on their first newbuild together.

The Fiskebäck-based company operates fishing vessels Ginneton, Ceton and Vera C, and it goes back to 1977 when Karl Gustav Claeson took over Ganthi V. This vessel was renamed Ginneton in 1980 and the name has stayed with the company since. Now Gifico has ordered a 64 metre trawler for delivery in August 2023, and this new vessel will become the third Ginneton.
Gifico is active in fisheries for herring and mackerel as well as for industrial species, and the new Ginneton is designed to fit in with this operating profile.
The design of the new 63.80 metre, 13.50 metre breadth Ginneton has been developed with the yard’s designers, and the hull is the latest optimisation of the successful Karstensen 63 metre series, of which the current Ginneton, built originally for Danish owners as Cattleya, was the first.
According to the yard, the focus has been on optimising working conditions, safety and crew comfort, drawing on experience with the company’s current fishing vessels and the yard’s long portfolio. Significant attention has also been paid to achieving a green profile optimised for minimal fuel consumption and emissions, using a number of progressive measures. These include heat recovery from all engines, LED lighting throughout and numerous other energy-saving options.
The owners have opted for a Wärtsilä propulsion package, with a 8L32 E2 main engine powering a large-diameter propeller. 700kW side thrusters will be supplied by Brunvoll. Ginneton will have a Karmøy Winch deck equipment system.
Gifico is owned by the Claeson family from Fiskebäck in Sweden. The company is today managed by 99-year-old Karl Gustav's two sons Kurt and Thor, along with their sons Philip, Jonathan, Jacob and Johannes and Thor's son-in-law Alexander, all of whom are active on board the company’s three vessels, of which the current Ginneton and Ceton were both built by Karstensens.
“We welcome the trust the Claeson family demonstrates in placing this order. Returning customers are the best advertising you can get. Like the vessels the yard has under construction for owners in Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands and Denmark, the new Ginneton is also the yard’s own design,” said the yard’s Kent Damgaard, commenting that the yard has an orderbook of fifteen fishing vessels to be delivered over the coming three years.
