Therney RE 1 will be delivered its new owner, Sea Harvest Corporation (Pty) Ltd in November 2017.

The fillet freezer trawler was constructed in 1992 in Norway and has been operated by HB Grandi ever since its arrival to Iceland in 1993.

Back in June, HB Grandi signed a contract for a 81.30 x 17m newbuild freezer trawler, which is due to be delivered in mid-2019.

When completed, the new trawler will be one of the most sophisticated vessels of its kind fishing in the North Atlantic.

At the time of the order, it was uncertain as to how many of the company’s older freezer trawlers the newbuild would be replacing.

The Sea Harvest Group is an international fishing and food business with operations in South Africa and Australia, servicing retail and foodservice customers in 22 countries.

Its principal business is the fishing of Cape Hake and Shark Bay prawns, processing of the catch into frozen and chilled seafood and the marketing of these products, locally and internationally.

Sea Harvest owns and operates a fleet of 18 vessels which include single and twin fresh fish trawlers, factory freezer trawlers and access to in-shore trawlers which catch and process Cape Hake, as well as other by-catch species such as kingklip and monk.
