HB Grandi’s new filleter freezer trawler will feature a Bergen Diesel engine and Rolls-Royce winches

The company’s CEO Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson this week signed the contract for the 81.30x17m newbuilding, with delivery date in mid-2019, alongside managers at the Astilleros Armon yard in Spain. The new trawler will be built at Armon’s Gijon yard and is scheduled to have a two-year construction time.

Project manager Rafn Haraldsson confirmed that the new freezer trawler will have a 4000mm diameter propeller and is designed for energy efficiency in both steaming and fishing modes. It will have a Rolls-Royce electric winch system and a 5400kW Bergen Diesel main engine.

The factory is to be fitted out for fillet production with a 100 tonne/24 hours capacity, and the fishmeal plant will have a 50 tonne/24 hours throughput rate.

The refrigerated fishroom is designed to have capacity for 1000 tonnes of frozen products, with the fishroom laid out for palletised storage.

HB Grandi has announced that the new trawler’s contract is worth €44,327,000, and this will be the most sophisticated vessel of its kind fishing in the North Atlantic when it is delivered in 2019. It is as yet uncertain how many of the company’s older freezer trawlers the newbuild will replace.
