PIRIOU shipyards recently launched the first of the three 90m purse tuna seiners ordered by SAPMER.
The vessel is the largest vessel ever delivered by PIRIOU.
The first sea trials were completed at the end of April, followed by a second set of trials at the end of May.
PIRIOU says that the main innovations of these new generation tuna seiners are:
• Mixed onboard fish storage in brine tanks at -20°C and/or in a dry hold at -40°C depending on the type and final destination of the product
• The diesel electric propulsion system which is unconventional, since the shaftline and propeller are driven by two electric motors
The fitting out will now continue and delivery is scheduled for June this year.
