Owen Symmans, chief executive of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council has announced he will be resigning from the position early in 2010.

Mr Symmans will be dedicating more time to other business interests and after seven exciting and eventful years in the role, is ready to move on.

"This is a vibrant, economically valuable and innovative industry. It has been a privilege to work with and for the people who make considered and careful use of New Zealand's seafood resource."

Mr Symmans said the role has been enjoyable and challenging, and he had gained great satisfaction from leading a dedicated team who achieved a considerable amount for the industry.

Dave Sharp, the chairman of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council said that Mr Symmans would be greatly missed by the seafood industry.

The New Zealand Seafood Industry Council will commence the process of appointing a new chief executive in the New Year.
