The Norwegian Seafood Council says that the value of ithe country''s seafood exports totalled NOK4.4bn in April – a record increase of NOK795m or 22% on last year.
Norwegian salmon is fundamental to Norway’s seafood export market, it’s sold to more than 100 markets across the world. In April 2013 it totalled NOK3bn, an increase of NOK833m, or 38% compared to April 2012.
France and Poland are the two biggest export markets for Norwegian salmon. Last month saw record high prices for the fish driven up by increased international demand exceeding supply.
Elsewhere, exports of Norwegian cod were also up by NOK73m to a total of NOK195m in April 2013. Frozen fillets did especially well, up by NOK3m to a total of NOK110m.
Exports of Clipfish, including Norwegian cod, saithe, ling, tusk and other groundfish, increased during the month by NOK33m, up to a total of NOK179m.
It wasn't all good news though. Herring and mackerel exports were down on April 2012 by NOK50m to a total of NOK149m.
