Two of Samherji''s oldest ships have now sailed their last fishing trip after a long and successful career with the Samherji group.

They have both, from the beginning, been among the highest on the list of Iceland's ships in total catch.

Norma Mary (ex Akureyrin) was Samherji's first ship. It has been operated by the company from 1983 and was one of the first in Iceland that was equipped to process and freeze fish onboard. Norma Mary is 1,318gt, built in Poland in the 1974 and lengthened in 1995. It was sold to Samherji’s daughter company, Onward Fishing Co, in 2002 and has been operated from Great Britain since then. The final trip was typical for its career; the ship was full of frozen products, almost 450t worth over ISK300m. The last Captain of Norma Mary was Asgeir Palsson.

The trawler Vidir (ex April HF) was bought from Hafnarfjodur in the 1985. Vidir was also built in Poland in the 1974. It was lengthened and converted into a freezer trawler in 1991 and renovated in 2002. The Captain of Vidir was Sigmundur Sigmundsson.

Samherji says that these changes are part of renovating the company’s ships and adjusting the fleet to meet fishing allowances.
