NSK Ship Design has signed a contract with China National Fisheries Corporation (CNFC), the owner of one of the world''s largest fishing fleets, to convert a conventional trawler into a krill trawler and krill meal production vessel.

The project is at an advanced stage in the development phase. The vessel is being converted from a Moonzund class trawler to a krill vessel with all the processing on board. When converted the vessel will feature a large production capacity, low energy consumption and solutions that contribute to a high quality end product.
"For NSK, this is an important project because keeps alive our knowledge and experience in project planning for krill vessels. Utilising and developing the solid competence that we possess helps us take the lead in offering advantageous deliveries," said director Kjartan Karlsen.
CNFC owns over 220 fishing vessels and operates mainly in the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Other current design projects for NSK include the construction of a fish pellet feeder with LNG propulsion, full project planning of Havfarm fish farming ship for Nordlaks and development of new well boats for the aquaculture industry.
