Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment (BOI) has approved a Senura Aquaculture Lanka (Pvt) Ltd project to build a new fish farm in Chilaw, Sri Lanka.

The company is working in collaboration with Israeli company AR Aquaculture Ltd, and will invest US$100m in developing 1,000 acres of private land for the new fish farm.
‘Senura Aquaculture’ will be a state of the art fish farm managed by a team of Sri Lankan and Israeli experts from the fisheries and aquaculture industry. Under the agreement the company will build an office complex with conference hall facilities, a hatchery complex, fish breeding units, laboratory facilities and fish and prawn cultivation ponds.
This project is being studied as a role model by many state universities and research centres to build up knowledge in the science of aquaculture. It is supported by institutions such as the Ministry of Fisheries, National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka (NAQDA).
Aquaculture is one of the sectors targeted by BOI, to boost Sri Lanka’s fisheries production.
