The second of a pair of new pelagic vessels for owners in Iceland is on its way home from Skagen, and is expected to dock this week in its home port of Neskaupstaður.

The first of the two new vessels built at the Karstensen yard to the same design was delivered in April to Samherji, and Vilhelm Thorsteinsson has since then been fishing successfully on blue whiting. Sister vessel Börkur, built for Síldarvinnslan, is now steaming home and is due to dock in Neskaupstaður on Thursday.
“We’re doing fine, cruising on one of the two main engines,” said skipper Hjörvar Hjálmarsson.
“We’re in no hurry as the delivery trip doubles as our isolation period. Most of the crew are on board, plus a few others, and everyone’s delighted with the ship. It’s exceptionally quiet.”
He commented that Börkur is an outstanding new vessel and fitted out with the latest equipment throughout.
“We carried out sea trials with purse seine gear a week ago and everything performed very well, and we had already carried out trials with trawl gear This is going to be a great ship to work on and everyone’s happy with it,” Hjörvar Hjálmarsson said.
