Fusion Marine has helped to upgrade part of Marine Harvest’s Cairndow Hatchery in a development project that was completed within a tight timescale so as to meet juvenile fish production requirements at the unit.
The modified system has enhanced the filtration efficiency of the hatchery, which uses water sourced from a nearby river and will benefit the health of the developing fish by ensuring exceptionally clean water.
The job was completed in two phases with the first involving alterations to the original 630mm manifold, which were required to be completed in time for the delivery of latest batch of salmon eggs at the end of last year.
Phase two involved connecting the new filter into the system in time for the eggs hatching and in preparation for first feed at the beginning of February 2015.
Fusion Marine engineers utilised ControlPoint’s innovative ‘BlueBox’ technology as part of the upgrade to securely close the large diameter 500mm and 630mm electrofusion joints on the pipework to ensure the strongest possible integrity of the whole system.
Owen Hutchins, Marine Harvest site manager, said: “The health of our young fish is a priority and this is why we were keen to enhance the filtration efficiency of the hatchery even further. The upgrade project went extremely well and was tailored to meet our new stock input deadlines.”
