Just weeks after taking delivery of innovative LNG-powered pelagic vessel Libas, owners Liegruppen have placed an order for another pelagic vessel, staying with designers Salt Ship Design and the Cemre Shipyard.

The new Liafjord will be a 71 metre LOA pelagic trawler with a 15 metre beam.

Liegruppen has a longstanding reputation for innovative thinking and embracing new ideas, and Liafjord will be fitted with Wavefoil bow foils – subject to confirmation from Enova.

This new trawler will be the first fishing vessel to have retractable bow foils installed. These are located in the bow sections and contribute considerably to reduced vessel motion and energy consumption in a seaway.

This will consequently reduce the fuel consumption and emissions considerably, while contributing too increased the safety and comfort for the crew. The system will also enable the vessel to maintain higher speeds in rough conditions.

The new trawler will also be equipped with a battery pack and electric winch systems.

“For Salt, it is a great recognition that Liegruppen again chooses a Salt design, just weeks after taking delivery of Libas,” a spokesperson for Salt Ship Design said.
