Danish fishing company Ruth A/S has placed an order for an 87.8m fishing vessel with Karstensens Shipyard.

Ruth will be a modern pelagic purser/trawler featuring all the newest equipment and machinery. The owner and shipyard say that, to the best of their knowledge, Ruth will be the first vessel of its kind equipped for fishing two trawls/twin-rig. Accordingly the vessel will be equipped with three trawl winches, four net drums and two fish pump positions at the stern.

Ruth A/S was established in 1988 by Gullak Madsen with two partners, by means of the purchase of Arica I (now Dona Maria, Chile). This vessel was renamed Ruth, and the present vessel is number four with same name. Current skippers of the existing Ruth, Ole Nattestad and Mikkjael Godtfred, will also take command of the new vessel.

The main engine will be a MAN 8L32/44 CR delivering 4800kW – the first MAN common-rail main engine ordered for the Danish fishing fleet. Auxiliary engines will be Cummins, supplied by local company Østergaard; Johnson Controls’ Danish subsidiary, Sabroe, will supply the RSW-plant; and Iras will supply vacuum unloading system.

The new Ruth is scheduled for delivery in March 2016 and will cost approximately €34m. Including the new Ruth, Karstensens Shipyard’s order book comprises six vessels (of which five are pelagic fishing vessels) to be delivered over the next two years.
