The company offers on-site salmon harvesting and net washing services and operates off Shetland, Orkney, Isle of Skye and the West coast of Scotland. The company is currently responsible for 22% of all farmed salmon harvested in Scotland. Its employee numbers have doubled to nearly 50 in the past two years and turnover has tripled to nearly £5 million.

With customer demand meaning no spare capacity, Johnson Marine secured a business loan from RBS, which enabled the company to acquire three additional boats on top of the four which it already owned, as well as purchasing harvesting equipment.

It is now looking to grow further over the course of the next 12 months.

David Leask, technical manager at Johnson Marine, explained, “We would like to continue our success into 2015 so that by the end of next year we are harvesting a greater percentage of salmon and cleaning more salmon nets.

“We’re also focussed on research and development and developing systems to improve costs, welfare and the quality of the end product.

“The funding from RBS will go a long way towards helping us achieve our aims and meet customer demand.”
