The Co-operative Food has seen a significant spike in seafood sales and attributes the success to the return of Seafood Week which took place last month.
This news comes as Seafish, the authority on seafood, announced that next year’s Seafood Week will be held on 7-14 October 2016.
“Seafood Week 2015 was a massive success at the Co-operative Food, where a co-ordinated campaign from digital to the shelf edge helped bring new shoppers to the category,” said Steve Addison, from The Co-operative Food.
He added: “The end result was double digit sales growth and nothing says a job well done more than that.”
The return of Seafood Week on 9-16 October was the first since 2007. It was reintroduced as an eight day celebration to encourage consumers to eat more fish and showcase the work of the seafood industry.
It also included the first ever Fish Pun Day on social media which led to the use of hashtags #seafoodweek and #fishpunday on Twitter, this helped to raise added attention to the event.
Mel Groundsell, Seafish, said: “The main aim of the campaign was to encourage more people to eat more fish more often, and to receive such exciting feedback from one of our partners is extremely encouraging.”
She concluded: “I’d like to personally thank everyone across the industry for their support in making Seafood Week such a success. Seafood Week has been very well received and our plan now is to make sure that Seafood Week 2016 is even bigger and better.”
