Mercator Media’s Offshore Mariculture Conference (OMC) is changing to ‘High Energy Mariculture Europe’ in 2018 to reflect the pioneering aquaculture industry within Europe.

Taking place between the 17-19 October in Corfu, Greece, the conference will focus on the vital components of the supply chain for medium/high volume production, ranging from hatchery and farming to value added components and the distribution network of the final product.
Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, events director at Mercator Media, commented: “The conference is aimed at professionals who are looking to gain valuable information on the progress and prospects for farming offshore.”
Industry analysis
The programme includes presentations covering the full process from broodstock to consumer, an in-depth review of how the industry is developing and analysis of recent advancements overseas and how they can be adapted and implemented in Europe.
There will also be a visit to a local offshore farm and opportunities to learn about and discuss the challenges and opportunities for moving into high energy or offshore sites.
Corfu was chosen to host the conference due to the wealth of experience in the Greek fish farming supply chain; 69% of total Greek fisheries production comes from fish farming, accounting for 11% of the total Greek agricultural exports.
Greek aquaculture is mainly characterised by the production of marine finfish such as seabream and seabass, particularly in offshore conditions. Of the 1,045 aquaculture facilities in Greece, 36% are marine fish farm sites, meaning there is an excellent opportunity for suppliers to connect with fish farmers in this region.
