The Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (HAPO) is the gold sponsor of Greece’s first Hellenic Aquaculture Congress taking place on 22-23 June in Athens.

‘Greek aquaculture as the basic pillar for the development of the national economy’ will highlight and address the prospects and challenges of the sector for sustainable and healthy growth and will promote Greek aquaculture products in the local and international markets with a view to supporting Greek aquaculture as a growth driver of the economy.
Participants include representatives of the aquaculture industry, academics, Greek Government officials, the European Commission and European Parliament dignitaries.
Promoting reforms
HAPO’s primary objectives include promoting all reforms required to achieve a 4% increase in yearly production, provide consumers with proper information on aquaculture products and execute an integrated communication and promotion plan focusing on the characteristics and values of fresh Greek fish.
One of the main focuses of HAPO is promoting the brand of fresh Greek fish produced by its members, the new collective label ‘Fish from Greece’.
78% of Greece’s aquaculture production is currently being annually exported and 22% sold to domestic markets. According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, in the first half of 2017 fish were the top export products of Greece, dominating both European and non-EU markets, occupying second place after fresh fruit, in the food sector.
