ICELANDIC company Hampidjan will be showing its new Poly-Ice ''OPEX'' trawl door for the pelagic market at the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition.
The company says Nyrim, the nylon blend material used for the door, makes it very light and so helps reduce fuel consumption. The company has been working on this new type of door for more than a year and sea trials have been very good. A full size version of the door will be on display at the exhibition.
Hampidjan also says that its work on achieving a better water flow inside the trawl has benefited from a good combination in the design of the trawl of new high flow technology and new netting materials along with Helix rope. The new design of the Gloria Helix trawl takes the Helix rope further back on the trawl, close to the belly, where the high flow netting is installed, and the lighter trawl is more stable and gives a better water flow. The company said the new trawls were being used for Alaskan Pollock with very good results and are in trials for blue whiting and red fish.
