The Global Aquaculture Alliance and Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GTZ) have signed a letter of intent to cooperate on the development and implementation of a public-private partnership for sustainable pangasius production in Vietnam.

At an October meeting at the GTZ head offices in Eschborn, Germany, the two parties agreed that by improving the pangasius industry in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam through responsible production practices and value chain improvements, "we can add value to what poor farming households produce, generate more rural employment and raise incomes, and ensure consistent supply of high-quality pangasius products for the export market."
The purpose of the project is to increase the environmental and social sustainability of pangasius production by enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of producers, and developing common benchmarking guidelines that utilise the strengths of existing social, environmental and food safety standards and certification programs.
