Danish trawler ‘Ceton’ has a new set of 14m2 15 VF midwater doors from Thyborøn Trawldoors.

The owners of Ceton, brothers Thor and Sture Claesson report that the trawler has been fishing in the Skagerrak for herring with a pelagic Gloria 1024 trawl with great results. The brothers say that their new trawl doors are lighter and easier to tow and turn than their previous doors of another brand.
“The doors are so light compared to the ones we just tested, that they can be used for both bottom and pelagic trawling,” said Sture Claesson. “ The spread is just perfect whether we tow straight forward or turn around. Lighter doors that are easier to tow also saves fuel, no doubt about that. We only have made three fishing voyages with the new doors and Ceton. Therefore we have not measured the exact fuel consumption yet.”
Ceton usually fishes for herring or mackerel or on bottom for sand eel or sprat.
Three new Norwegian vessels have also been fitted with trawl doors from Thyborøn. Hopen is fishing with 14 VF 10m2 doors, and Atlantic Viking and Volstad both have a pair of 15 VF 8m2 doors.
Alaskan company Iquique Fishing Company has also switched back to Thyborøn and has chosen 15 VF 12m2 doors for bottom fishing, and Seattle’s Trident Seafoods has orderd new 15 VF 14m2 doors.
