Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondán S.A. has just delivered trawler Sunderøy to its new owner Norway''s Myre Havfiske AS which is based in Sortland.

This is the fifth trawler which Astilleros Gondán has built for Norway, as well as three other type vessels.

A statement from the company said that it is Astilleros Gondan's combination of quality and price which has won it trust among Norwegian owners. This reflects in part their high standard of construction and technical know-how and the flexibility do adapt to the client's requirements without detriment to the level of quality agreed upon, the company said.

The Sunderøy trawler was designed by Nordvestconsult-Rolls Royce Marine and has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure. Her work will be high-performance stern trawling for fish and shrimp and processing and freezing on board. Main operation areas will be the north Atlantic and the Barents Sea.

She has a low fuel consumption and is the first fishing vessel (in this size range) to operate electrical AC winches.

There are two continuous full-length decks, the main and trawl, plus a lower full-length and an upper forecastle deck forward of midships. Deckhouse and wheelhouse are placed forward of the midships. She has a stern ramp and a monopod fishing gantry. The engine room has been placed aft and the monopod gantry on the port side also supports the exhaust pipes. The accommodation is located forward, as is the anti-rolling tank.

Her machinery and equipment, has been classified by DET NORSKE VERITAS as: DNV + 1A1, Stern Trawler , Ice 1B (Hull notation 1 A), EO.

Winches

The yard says the vessel has "been fitted with an extraordinary array of AC electrical -- driven fishing machinery, supplied by Ulstein Brattvaag (Rolls-Royce),which enables her to work with two independent trawls. The equipment includes:

* Two trawl winches, located on each side of the lower forecastle deck. Wire 3500m, 30mm , 37t pull trawl.

* One trawl winch, located on centre lower forecastle deck. Wire 3,500m, 32mm, 45t pull trawl.

* Six sweep lines winches, 18t pull, located on centre trawl deck.

* Two 20t Gilson winches.

* One 12t cod end winch.

* One out haul 12t winch.

* Two auxiliary winches 10t each.

* Two Gilson hook winches , 1,25t (not supplied by R.R.).

* Four back strap winches, 1,25t (not supplied by R.R.).

The whole fishing system is controlled by an independent console system, by Ulstein Brattvaag, in the wheel house.

All above mentioned winches are driven by AC electrical motors connected to the necessary frequency converters placed in an air conditioned converter room.

The fishing gantry supports the trawl snatch blocks which are supplied by Molæroe from Norway, with up to a 45t SWL.

There are two articulated electric cranes of 5t SWL to 12m , and 2t SWL to 8m, both by ABAS, AS of Norway.

Handling and cold storage

The trawler is equipped with the most advanced on-board fish processing and cold storage facilities available. The fish goes from the deck into a receiving bin through a hatch with a hydraulically-operated cover to different conveyor belts. The fish processing area and its machinery consists of :

* Shrimp processing lines (Two sorting machines, shrimp cooker, IQF freezing tunnel, Japan line with two packing stations, two horizontal plate freezers, six vertical plate freezers, shrimp separator, box forming machine , strapping machines, scalers etc.)

* Fish processing lines (four rotation tanks, three gutting machines, cleaning tables, washing machines, electronic grader, buffer tanks, conveyors, packing tables, elevator, conveyors in hold etc.)

Machinery and propulsion
