The first ever International Cleaner Fish Summit saw attendees focus on efficient use of biological control against sea lice and the benefits that cleaner fish will bring to the salmon farming industry.

Sea lice control was one of the main topics at the summit in Scotland

180 delegates from the Faroes, Iceland, Ireland, Norway and Scotland attended the summit in Scotland to focus on topics including transportation, deployment, cohabitation, sustainability, health and nutrition.

Heather Jones, CEO of the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), which co-hosted the conference, said: “Greater sea lice control has been one of our priorities since day one, as has sharing the insights gleaned from SAIC-supported projects with the wider Scottish aquaculture sector. So to see our industry and academic partners exchange the knowledge being gained with their industry and international peers is a truly landmark moment.”

Discussions at the Technology & Innovation Centre in Glasgow also focussed on the range of tools and support available to industry practitioners.

Delegates attending the three-day summit, held in partnership with the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF), had the chance to delve deeper into subjects during break-out sessions and evening events. The summit also allowed for substantial networking opportunities.

Exhibitors included Aquality, JETE Innovation, OK Marine, Pacific Trading and Skjerneset fisk AS.
