The algal oil was created to enable the production of EPA and DHA without using fish oil from wild-caught fish

With algal oil now established as a mainstream aquafeed ingredient, Veramaris said it will focus on scaling production, deepening partnerships across the seafood value chain, and delivering secure, certified-sustainable sources of essential omega-3s.

Mark van Nieuwland has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Gertjan de Koning effective 1 January 2026. Van Nieuwland, who brings an entrepreneurial background to the role, joins in November to ensure a smooth handover. Holger Kinzel will remain CFO/COO, while Ian Carr became Chief Commercial Officer on 1 November after seven years leading Veramaris’ global marketing.

At board level, Philip Eykerman, President Strategy, M&A and Transformation at DSM-Firmenich, succeeds Andre Bosas President of the Veramaris Board.

Van Nieuwland said he looks forward to building on Veramaris’ success as a “leader in sustainable algal oil and trusted supplier of omega-3 EPA & DHA.” Eykerman praised De Koning for transforming Veramaris “from a struggling startup into a profitable, respected industry leader.”

Veramaris, a joint-venture between DSM-Firmenich and Evonik, produces natural marine algal oil as a sustainable alternative to fish oil for aquaculture, pet food and human nutrition. The company said the leadership evolution underscores its commitment to reliable, scalable omega-3 nutrition that supports the future growth of sustainable aquaculture.
