Skretting has signed an upgraded three-year strategic cooperation agreement with Longyang Fresh – China’s largest trout producer – aimed at accelerating precision nutrition, strengthening supply chain resilience and advancing sustainable production of trout on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The partnership formalises several years of collaboration between the two companies in feed innovation, nutritional management and farming practices for plateau-grown trout. Both sides said the new agreement reflects a shared long-term vision for the development of China’s cold-water aquaculture sector.
Qinghai–Tibet Plateau offers unusually favourable conditions for trout farming – low temperatures, high dissolved oxygen and low pathogen pressure. Skretting and Longyang Fresh will use these ecological traits to co-develop specialised precision nutrition strategies tailored to high-altitude environments.
Key areas of focus include:
- Developing new nutrition models adapted to plateau water profiles and trout physiology
- Using global data to optimise growth, health and feed efficiency
- Enhancing raw-material traceability and reducing nitrogen and phosphorus discharge
- Minimising environmental impact through lower-emission feed design and farming practices
Longyang Fresh Chairman Miyan Ying said the upgraded partnership “builds on years of successful collaboration and a shared long-term vision,” and that Skretting’s global capabilities would remain “effective support” in elevating plateau trout production.
The producer farms trout in the Longyangxia Reservoir on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, using glacial meltwater from the Yellow River’s headwaters. The pristine, low-disturbance environment eliminates sea-lice risk, supports antibiotic-free farming and allows low-density, low-stress growth.
The company also uses triploid, infertile trout to prevent ecological impact on native species. With annual production of around 15,000 tonnes, Longyang Fresh accounts for nearly 99% of China’s trout export volume.
Skretting will support the development of a more stable and sustainable plateau trout supply chain through its global raw-material network, nutrition expertise and sustainability programmes. The partnership aims to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint while improving competitiveness in international markets.
“We look forward to integrating our advanced global nutrition technologies and sustainability expertise with the unique conditions of the plateau,” said Skretting CEO Maarten Bijl. “This partnership reinforces our role as a nutritional and functional partner in high-value aquaculture, and underlines our commitment to strengthening Skretting’s presence in China and across Asia.”
The companies say the cooperation marks a new phase in the evolution of China’s plateau trout sector, positioning the region to become a significant source of sustainable, premium protein for global consumers.
