Belzona Polymerics will be showcasing a solution for repairing leaking flanges through live demonstrations at Fishing 2009 in Glasgow.

Belzona will showcase a solution for repairing leaking flanges at Fishing 2009

Corrosive fluids and crevice corrosion can result in deterioration and subsequent leaking of flange faces. If a minor leak is not addressed at an early stage it can rapidly develop into much larger and more costly problems. A damaged flange face can often result in health and safety hazards on board the fishing boat and ultimately, costly replacement of equipment.

A conventional solution to this problem involves cropping off the flange from the pipe and welding on a replacement. This is a time consuming and costly exercise due to the precautions necessary when carrying out hot work.

However, this can be prevented by utilising an applied cost-effective Belzona solution and perfectly formed mating flange faces can be re-created. This results in a long term corrosion protection of the flange that is far less susceptible to the risk of damage and leakage in the future. The Belzona solution reduces equipment downtime and eliminates associated safety implications related to hotwork.

According to Peter Irvine, Belzona’s Strategic Industry Manager for the Fishing Industry, “We have repaired many flanges faces in-situ on fishing boats with this innovative application technique. This Belzona solution removes need of costly in-situ machining and eliminates dangers of hot work as it is cold method of repair “No hot works required”. Please visit our stand 2pm every day of the Fishing show to see simplicity of flange face forming in-situ application”.
