Cosmos Trawl A/S will be using Nor-Fishing to showcase the latest developments the company has made to make its gear more fuel efficient for its shrimp customers in Norway.
Over the years the Danish net maker has supplied shrimp gear to most vessels targeting deep sea shrimp in Norway and, even though shrimping have been very limited the last couple of years, Cosmos says it is looking forward to touching base with new and old customers during the exhibition.
"However, due to the current situation, naturally the main topic will be 'ways to lower fuel costs', so at the Cosmos booth we will prepare ourselves for giving advise on this question", area sales manager Thorleif Grønkjær says.
Light version shrimp trawl
Cosmos will showcase its new light version shrimp trawl design, made with larger meshes in the top panel and using Dynex netting to cut net area even further to save on fuel. The trawl design has already proven its efficiency onboard leading shrimp vessels, but recently Cosmos has made some extra modifications to increase possible fuel savings.
Viking Xstream
As well as focussing on trawls, Cosmos will also present Hampidjan’s latest Viking-B Xstream trawl doors. This new trawl door has a slot system on the back of the doors that eliminates most drag behind the door and therefore makes them lighter to tow as well as more powerful. In addition, the new door is also said to be much more stable and stand much better at slow speed.
Dynex Warps
The hottest topic within modern fishing gear, Hampidjan’s Dynex Warps will also be highlighted during the exhibition. Cosmos says that replacing steel wire warps with Dynex Warps is now a proven way to reduce weight and increase trawl opening and handling – and little by little the shrimp industry is starting to show interest in this new development.
Separator shrimp grid
Cosmos' nylon sorting grids have been supplied all over the North Atlantic over the years, and has just received official approval from Norwegian fisheries authorities for use in Norwegian waters. However, the latest idea and grid design are taking a step further, focusing on shrimp sustainability – separating the smaller shrimp away from the main target. The development is a project with one of Cosmos' customers and the idea is said to be very simple. "Trial results will hopefully be available at Nor-Fishing, and if the results are as positive as Cosmos is hoping, this new development will likely get a lot of focus too", Mr Grønkjær expects.
Full chain supplier
Cosmos will also be able to pass on information on its groundfish trawls, sandeel trawls, Helix midwater trawls and purse seines and the company says that it is hoping to be of service to even more Norwegian fishermen in the future.
