Cargill has opened its first dedicated fish feed plant in India as it develops its aqua feed business across Asia.

Cargill's fish feed plant in India

Cargill's new fish feed plant in India has a 90,000t annual capacity

The 90,000t annual capacity facility, which produces fish feed products for tilapia and other warm water species, allows the company to triple its fish feed capacity in India and brings 200 new jobs to the plant’s location in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

“This is a vibrant market and we’re excited to better serve farmers across Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Bengal,” said Chad Gauger, managing director of Cargill Aqua Nutrition in South Asia.

EWOS expansion

The feed plant marks the introduction of Cargill’s EWOS brand of aqua nutrition fish feed products to India. EWOS offers fish farmers aquaculture nutrition expertise, combined with research into fish health and sustainable innovations.

“India presents great opportunities for Cargill and plays an important part in our aqua nutrition growth strategy in Asia", said Einar Wathne, president of Cargill Aqua Nutrition. “The plant leverages Cargill’s industrial and supply chain capabilities, as well as our innovation expertise to provide customers with the best possible feed solutions, helping them grow healthy seafood and increase their output.”

Cargill invested more than US$10m in the opening of the plant, which was acquired from Mulpuri Foods & Feeds, and currently works with toll millers in the region, selling about 30,000t of fish feed a year.
