Brunvoll has signed a contract with Baatbygg to provide a propulsion, manoeuvring and control system for the world’s first combined trawling, auto-line and potting fishing vessel.
The equipment for the new Skipskompetanse-designed Cape Arkona, built for Australian shipping company Austral Fisheries, consists of a gear- and cp propeller plant with nozzle, tunnel thruster, rudder and steering gear, emergency telegraph system and complete control system. The propeller system is a hybrid twin-in single-out gearbox with a father and son diesel engine configuration, and electric motor for diesel-electric mode.

Flexibility
The system provides flexibility and operation from three possible engine solutions. The plant is also prepared for installation of a battery pack for additional flexibility.
"Austral Fisheries’ needs and Brunvoll's flexible hybrid propulsion solution fit very well, in order to optimize the environmentally, safety and redundancy requirements," added Mr Slotsvik.
The delivery from Brunvoll will take place by Q3 2019.
Cape Arkona can alternate between longlining, trawling and fishing with traps on a single trip without havng to reconfigure. This is “a combination that has not been implemented before, as far as we know,” stated Skipskompetanse.
