Aker Seafoods is selling its processing plant Aker Seafoods Ålesund (formerly known as West Fish Industrier) to family-owned fishery group, Brødrene Sperre AS.
The processing plant in Ålesund mainly produces clipfish and pelagic fish, along with some fresh fish. In addition, there are cold storage and ice production facilities at the plant.
However, the company has stated that, except for fresh fish production, the activities are not considered as a part of its core business and that this is the reason for the sale of the plant, along with its negative contribution in 2006.
Aker Seafoods is among the largest employers in Norway's fisheries industry, and one of Norway's leading producers and exporters of fish products.
Brødrene Sperre AS's head office is in Ellingsøy, outside Ålesund. In 2005, the company made NOK 777 million revenue in the clipfish, pelagic, and sea-frozen products business areas.
