At the end of March, the European Marine Equipment Council (EMEC) appointed Mr Jaakko Eskola, as President, replacing Mr Pim van Gulpen who has come to the end of his term.
Mr Jaakko Eskola is the Group Vice President of Wärtsilä Corporation and Head of Wärtsilä Ship Power. The appointment of Mr Eskola marks the strong commitment of the marine equipment industry towards to the policy making process at the EU and international level.
Mr Eskola will undertake the mission to bring the contribution of EMEC to the European Union and the IMO and support the development of the European Union’s transport and industry policies. His presidency will focus on promoting policy choices favouring safety at sea and environmental protection.
“The environmental challenge will top the agenda in all marine related industries. Prime movers have improved in efficiency and emissions levels, but further improvements are needed. I expect that there will be stronger equipment integration development that will secure higher overall efficiency, innovations related to different fuel strategies, and secondary methods to meet future demands. Improved environmental performance will be the focus for R&D and new equipment”
The EMEC has also appointed Mr Terje Dyrseth as new Vice-President. Mr Dyrseth is the Managing Director (CEO) of Brunvoll, a leading manufacturer of thrusters systems.
