Two leading figures in the Scottish seafood processing industry have retired after successfully steering Lossie Seafoods in Buckie to its current position as one the country’s leading premium salmon smokers.
However, both will still be retained by the company in an advisory role, given their huge knowledge and expertise.
Directors John Cowe and Charlie Devin are stepping down from their full-time role with the company after a successful handover period following the acquisition of Lossie Seafoods by Associated Seafoods in July last year.
Lossie Seafoods was founded over 100 years ago by John’s grandfather (also called John). Charlie Devin joined the company as sales director in 1995, and his sales skills, combined with John Cowe’s expertise in salmon smoking, resulted in a period of sustained growth that was aided by their strategy of focusing on the premium export market.
Over the period, Lossie Seafoods has won numerous awards for its sales performance and product quality, and which has also seen the number of employees soar from around 15 to approximately 60 today.
Victor West, managing director of Lossie Seafoods said: “Charlie and John are two of the greatest characters in the Scottish seafood industry and their track record speaks for itself. I wish them both well in their retirement, although we will still be drawing upon their advice and wise counsel when required as we continue to grow the company.”
