Yellowfin tuna and skipjack tuna from the certified vessels operating in Western Indian Ocean (FAO area 51) are now authorised to carry the FoS ecolabel.

According to the latest assessments, the targeted stocks are not overexploited, and no protected areas are affected by the fishing activity. Fishermen only catch yellowfin over 18kg and skipjack over 1.2kg.

According to FoS, Ensis has a traceability system in place and can demonstrate which products originate from the approved fleet. The inspected vessels are registered under the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture (MOFA).

“The conduct of the audit was very professional so we are proud to have obtained the certification for Ensis,” said Joby K Jose, who is in-charge of certifications at Ensis.“We will continue to rely on Friend of the Sea for contributions to our commitments on sustainability.”
