While 69% of adults in the UK were unaware of the recommendation that they should eat two portions of fish each week, and one of those should be oily fish.

The research was conducted as a part of Seafish’s Superfishoil campaign which is spearheaded by celebrity chef and restaurateur, John Torode.

He said: “I support the ‘Superfishoil’ campaign from Seafish and hope that it will encourage people to eat more seafood, especially oily fish.”

“There is a wide variety of delicious and affordable produce out there, from mackerel and kippers to sardines and crab. Seafood is so versatile; it can be used to make so many fantastic dishes.”

Eating two portions of fish each week could dramatically reduce the risk of heart diseases. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) remains the UK’s biggest killer, accounting for more than 73,000 deaths each year.

Other studies found that 80% of CHD cases could have been prevented through a healthier lifestyle.

The Superfishoil campaign is hoping to inspire people to look at what they eat and encourage them to choose delicious and nutritious seafood as a healthier option for meals and snacks.
