Bridon Ropes, the leading wire manufacturer has developed yet another rope that has proven to be a winner after a trial period of 16 months .

The Dyform Starfish rope, developed specifically for fishing applications.

The name Starfish is attributable to the cross section of the rope (pictured), with the steel core covered with a shaped plastic extrusion that fills the middle of the six-strand rope to resemble a six-pointed star.

The main benefit of the Starfish over other fishing ropes is the extended rope life that has been gained as a direct result of the extra protection given to the steel core by its covering of plastic. Core corrosion is prevented sealing the lubrication within the rope core with the plastic.

This also prevents ingress of seawater into the core.

The fingers of the star also assists in maintaining the designed strand gap, which helps the rope to maintain its designed diameter for a longer period, ensuring a longer working life.

Simon Dixon, Bridon's Fishing Sales Manager said: Starfish has been a resounding success for the Fishing division of Bridon Ropes.

The quality and ability of the product speaks for itself, and has been confirmed in the market place.

Initially we trialled the rope on selected vessels and then many other companies ordered the product, with one owner selecting it for their entire fleet

"Dyform Starfish is a worldwide success -- the rope is already on vessels in Iceland, Norway, Faroe Islands, Russia and South Africa -- and we will continue to build on this thanks to the strength of the trial results "

Two Icelandic customers who have trialled Starfish, were first in the queue for repeat orders.

Happy with the results the rope had reached during its trial period, Samherji hf has used the rope on board vessel Baldvin Thorsteinsson, and Grandi hf will also continue to use Starfish on board Therney.

Skipper Hakon T. Gudmundsson of samherji hf commented on the Starfish rope on-board his vessel Baldvin Thorsteinsson.

"We have trialed Bridon's Starfish rope on-board for a year now, and have been impressed with the quality.

The rope proves itself to be superior to other brands of rope in that it maintains its diameter for longer and has an extended rope life. "
