Siglufjörður fishing company Rammi went to Norwegian naval architect Skipsteknisk for the design of the new factory freezer trawler that was christened this weekend.
The new Sólberg has been delivered by the Tersan yard in Turkey and is the most sophisticated fishing vessel of its kind in the Icelandic fleet. It replaces two older vessels, Mánaberg which built in Spain in 1972, and Sigurbjörg, which was built in Iceland in 1987.
Sólberg has an overall length of 79.80 metres and a beam of 15.40 metres, and is a Skipsteknisk ST-116 XL design. Accommodation is for a crew of up to 38, plus a medical cabin.
The factory deck has been fitted out by Optimar with a system that includes a dual-lane Valka portioning machine. Sólberg’s factory deck can produce fillets and H&G products as well as fillets. It has a production capacity of 75 tonnes per day in two horizontal plate freezers and a single IQF plant. The fishmeal plant for handling factory waste is supplied by Héðinn.
The Tersan yard has since 2013 completed thirteen fishing vessels, of which ten have been factory trawlers and the yard has two more factory trawlers being built to Skipsteknisk designs for completion this year.
