Seafish will launch the consultation on 1 June, delayed from 2020 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over an 8 week period, individuals, businesses and organisations will be asked to share views on how Seafish can best serve the seafood sector in the UK and how it can be funded, culminating in a report to government in November.

Marcus Coleman, chief executive at Seafish, said the aim was to strengthen the organisation’s offering. “The nature of the seafood industry is always evolving,” he said. “It’s now facing the challenges that have come from the Covid-19 pandemic and as we get used to trading, fishing and working outside the EU.”

A Strategic Review Steering Group including Seafish and all four UK government administrations is overseeing the process to ensure compliance and an independent facilitator will lead the stakeholder workshops and the written submissions.

Participants will be invited to take part in virtual supply chain workshops or, alternatively, will be able to respond to questions through a written submission or online survey. Seafish will contact stakeholders over the coming weeks.

An invitation to tender for independent experts to manage the two elements of the industry consultation is available on the Seafish website.
