The value of fish landed by Scottish vessels increased by 10% in 2009, according to official figures published by Scotland’s Chief Statistician.

The new figures, revealed in the newly-published 2009 Fisheries Statistics, showed the value of landings by Scottish vessels to have increased to £443 million (€519 million/$676.6 million).

A total of 378,000 tonnes of fish was landed by Scottish vessels last year. But the number of active fishing vessels based in Scotland stood at 2,174 vessels in 2009, the smallest fleet size ever recorded.
