The US NFI Salmon Council has announced the addition of new members - Blumar USA and Platina Seafood USA.
This brings the Salmon Council’s membership to 18 companies, representing wild-caught, farmed, domestic and imported products.
Based in Norway with a sales office in Miami, FL, Platina Seafood USA provides a variety of salmon products to North America. “Salmon keeps growing in popularity among American consumers,” said Platina Seafood President Johan Andreassen. “The Salmon Council has come along at a critical moment to communicate salmon’s health message and further elevate salmon as a household dish.”
Specialising in Chilean farmed salmon, Blumar’s facilities handle all aspects of salmon aquaculture from hatchery to harvest. Daniel Montoya, CEO of Blumar USA in Miami, views the Salmon Council’s joint marketing of wild and farmed salmon as an important collaboration. “As an aquaculture company, Blumar appreciates the Salmon Council’s sponsorship of farmed salmon,” said Mr Montoya. “With salmon popping up more on menus and around the dinner table, farmed salmon has become essential to meeting the health and quality demands of consumers.”
Salmon Council Chairman Jim Walstrom believes the Council’s newest members will broaden salmon’s impact within the US and abroad. “Platina and Blumar’s international ties indicate the global scope of salmon,” said Mr Walstrom. “The Council will benefit from Platina and Blumar’s world perspective as we continue crafting messages for salmon consumption.”
The Salmon Council was established in January 2013 for the promotion of salmon in the US market.
